San Diego Transportation

San Diego is a modern and well laid out city, and most of the main attractions such as the Gaslamp district, and the beach front amusement park are within easy reach of the main resort hotels. With this in mind, if your visit to the city is primarily to relax and unwind, lie on the beach, and make occasional visits to the shopping malls in the centre of the city, then the only San Diego Transportation that you will need is your legs, and you will be able to easily walk from one place to another.

If on the other hand, your plans for visiting the city involve exploring the surrounding areas, and perhaps taking a trip up the coast to Los Angeles, or inland to Palm Springs, then hiring a car is the best way of getting around, and will allow you the freedom to go where you want when you want, which public San Diego transportation restricts you from doing.

It is important to remember that if you are planning on taking a day trip into Mexico, to the border town of Tijuana; your car hire rental agreement will specifically state that you may not take the car over the border. This means that you will have to park at the lot just next to the border outpost, and ride the bus from the customs area to the city attractions of Tijuana, such as the beach and markets.

Getting from the airport to your hotel is relatively easy, and there are a number of different San Diego transportation options available to you. Many of the hotels in the city operate a private shuttle service that runs regularly between the airport arrivals area and the hotel lobby. Generally there is no charge for this, although you will usually need to register for it either before you fly, or when you arrive. These services are subject to demand, and if there are a lot of people on your flight who are going to the same hotel, the mini bus can be very crowded, or need to make many trips.

Taxis are widely available across the city, and are one of the most popular and cost effective San Diego transportation options available. They offer a door to door service, and most single journeys will cost less than $20 within the city limits. If you are planning a night out, try to arrange a cab in advance for the trip back to your hotel to avoid having to wait around for too long.
