San Diego Events

Thanks to its popularity as a resort town, and the number of people who visit every year, it sometimes seems as though the San Diego events calendar is one of the most packed in the whole USA. On major holiday weekends such as Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Labor Day, the beaches around the city are packed with visitors from elsewhere in the state, and the aroma of barbequing meat spreads across the air.

Unlike many cities, San Diego has a permanent year round amusement park, and this means that you don’t need a major event to have fun in the city. Indeed, many of the main San Diego events are more contemplative than in other areas of the USA, simply because the city is such a fun place every day that it doesn’t need a major festival to get lively.

Thanks to the large presence of the air force at the nearby Miramar Air Base, San Diego is a major centre during celebrations such as Veterans Day, and there is a parade through the city. The Air Force also provides fly bys with their aircraft on major events, and these are spectacular to say the least.

The other major population group in San Diego – the Mexicans, have brought a lot of their culture into the city with them, and you will find that they celebrate many saints’ days as well as certain Mexican rituals such as marking the lives of their ancestors on the Day of the Dead.

There are numerous small San Diego events that take place throughout the year including a number of business conferences, which take advantage of the large number of hotel rooms available, coupled with the relaxed attitude of the town in order to meet for exhibitions.

The thing to bear in mind if you are visiting the city during one of the major San Diego Events is that hotel rooms will be more expensive due to the heightened demand, so you will need to make sure that you book in advance to avoid arriving in the city with nowhere to stay, which would be a real problem.
